Biografia
Muzykolog, od 1965 doktorant w Instytucie Muzykologii Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego (profesor od 1991). Doktorat uzyskała w 1970, habilitację – 1983. W latach 1974-79 wicedyrektor Instytutu Muzykologii UW, 1988-2003 kierownik Zakładu Powszechnej Historii Muzyki, 1986-1990 i 1993-1999 prodziekan Wydziału Historycznego UW. Musicologist, Professor of Warsaw University, where she worked in the Institute of Musicology. She obtained her doctorate in 1970, earned habilitation in 1983, and in 1991 was granted the title of professor extraordinarius. In the years of 1974-79 she held the position of the Deputy Director of the Institute, headed the Department of Music History in years 1988-2003, and was appointed Deputy Dean of the Faculty of History for the periods of 1986-1990 and 1993-1999. W 40-letniej pracy dydaktycznej wykładała historię muzyki od baroku do początków XX wieku, prowadziła prace magisterskie (84) i doktorskie (9), recenzowała kilkadziesiąt prac doktorskich i habilitacyjnych. Była również kontraktowym profesorem UAM w Poznaniu, gościnnie wykładała na UJ, w Akademii Muzycznej w Warszawie, w uniwersytetach i instytucjach naukowych za granicą (Moguncja, Getynga, Paryż, la Châtre, Kijów, New Delhi). Od 1988 przewodniczy kongresom MAEO w Filharmonii Pomorskiej. Od 2001 przewodnicząca Rady Programowej Narodowego Instytutu Fryderyka Chopina w Warszawie.
W dorobku naukowym posiada szereg książek (Faktura fortepianowa Beethovena, 1972; Kronika wydarzeń muzycznych w Polsce w latach 1945-1972, 1974; Muzyka fortepianowa i pianistyka w wieku XIX, 1991; Słownik szkolny – muzyka, 1991; Historia i interpretacja muzyki…, 1993, 1995;
Wokół recepcji i rezonansu muzyki. Szkice chopinowskie, 2008), łącznie 250 prac, w tym artykuły w encyklopediach muzycznych, recenzje naukowe i in. Wśród edycji muzycznej na wyróżnienie zasługują wydania faksymilowe z wydaniami źródłowymi: 24 Preludia op. 28 (1999), Sonata h-moll op. 58 (2005, koedycja), Etiudy op. 10 nr 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 (2008) Chopina. Szeroki zakres zainteresowań naukowych obejmuje problemy metodologiczne, teoretyczne, historyczne, ujmowane w perspektywie interdyscyplinarnej. Szczególne znaczenie mają prace poświęcone pianistyce, muzyce fortepianowej, F. Chopinowi i recepcji muzyki. Jest redaktorem lub współredaktorem książek i cyklicznych wydawnictw muzykologicznych, m.in. 5 tomów Chopin w kręgu przyjaciół (1995-1999).
In the forty years of her teaching career she has taught music history (from the Baroque to the early 20th century) in lectures and seminars, supervised MA (84) and Ph.D. (9) theses, reviewed a number of Ph.D. and habilitation dissertations. She also worked as a visiting Professor at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, guest lecturer at Jagiellonian University in Cracow, the Warsaw Academy of Music, as well as at universities and institutions abroad (Mainz, Gottingen, Paris, la Châtre, Kiev, New Delhi). Since 1988 she has chaired the MAEO congresses, held at the Pomeranian Philharmonic Hall in Bydgoszcz. Since 2001 she has been heading the Advisory Board of the Frederic Chopin Institute in Warsaw.
The broad scope of her academic interests includes various methodological, theoretical, and historical issues, for which she adopts an interdisciplinary perspective. She published a number of books, e.g. Beethoven’s Piano Texture, 1972; A Chronicle of Music Events in Poland, 1945-1972, 1974; Pianists and Piano Compositions in the 19th-Century, 1991; A Student’s Dictionary of Music, 1991; Music History and Interpretation..., 1993, 1995; On Music Reception and Resonance: Chopin’s Sketches, 2008, the total number of 250 works, including articles and entries in music encyclopedias, reviews, and others. Particularly important are writings on piano music, pianists, Frederic Chopin, and music reception. She edited the following facsimile and source editions might be singled out as especially significant: 24 Preludes Op. 28 (1999), Sonata in H Minor Op. 58 (2005, co-edited), and Etudes Op. 10 No. 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 (2008) by Chopin. She is also the editor and co-editor of musicological books and journals, e.g. the 5 volumes of Chopin and His Friends (1995-1999).
